The End IV



They were almost at the end of their hike, on the downward slope to the parking lot. The sun was setting in front of him, and from where she was, some steps behind him, it looked like a halo around his cap. Then he collapsed. She thought he had tripped and twisted his ankle. The left one was prone to that. She called out his name, but he didn’t answer, and she hurried down to him. He was already gone. She sat with his head in her lap, telling him how much she loved him until the sun also left.
